The short answer is that you can't. Passwords are stored in
encrypted format, which means that they can't be retrieved. You can,
however, change your password to something else.
There are
two methods of doing this. The first is considerably more simple,
but it will also delete all other user accounts you may have set up.
Here are the instructions for the first method:
Edit
nsettings.cgi. Find a line which begins
and
replace that line with
Then
log in to your copy of NewsPro using username "setup" and leaving
the password blank. You will go through the standard initial setup,
but all news data and style settings, as well as most program
settings, will be preserved. All user accounts will be
deleted.
The second method is slightly more difficult, but
all settings and accounts will be preserved. Here are the
instructions for the second method:
Edit nsettings.cgi.
Find a line which begins
Look
through the contents of this line after the ``x. At one point, you
should see your username there. Your username should be followed by
something like
~CdhdetwT08ffA~me@email.address~3 | (except
the long string of letters and numbers will be different, it will
contain your e-mail address (or not, if you didn't set one), and the
number will be either 1, 2, or 3.) To get your password back,
replace the long string of characters (CdhdetwT08ffA in the example
above) with
This
will change your password to "newspro". Login with your username,
using "newspro" as your password, and then go and change your
password via User Info.
